CAF 2014

In 2014, Cambridge Arts Festival moved it’s traditional date from the first Saturday in June to June 21, coinciding with the Mayor’s Celebration of the Art and Art Attic.  For the first time in several years, the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful warm and sunny day.  The Preston Scout House Cadet Drum Line opened the festival with a drum performance at 10 am. The Artist Market was set up along Dickson Street along with merchandise and food vendors.  The main outdoor stage hosted musical acts for children and adults including the popular Mad Science and Livimack.  Musical guests included Safe As Houses, Pilot Project, Dan Walsh, Nick Bastien Trio Jazz, and Chambers. Our indoor stage included performances by Cambridge Glee, the Cambridge Community Players, Faith Dance, Triple Arts Academy, and an Acoustastic Jam with Cacia Murphy and friends.

Our outdoor Children’s area was expanded to offer more free creative activities for kids including face painting, arts and crafts, sidewalk chalk and graffiti chalk wall, bubbles, balloons, the It’s Your City Mural project with Lizzie Gosse, book readings by Julie Nichols “Jelly Jam Jonny, and the Long and McQuade Musical Petting Zoo.

Back by popular demand, our indoor Maker Lab was bigger and better than ever with Idea|Exchange, robot assemblage, Kinetic Kinect interactive video art, and comic book art with Studio Comix.  Our new Kid’s Passport was a big hit as children collected activity stamps to win great prizes.

Other special activities included our first every Book Swap, a sensory exploration workshop with DeafBlind Ontario, living room photoshoot with Heather Baker, and an indoor art exhibit from Highland Public School.

A great day ended with a DJ light show and glow balls.

Thanks to everyone who came out to make the 2014 Cambridge Arts Festival a very special day.  See you on Saturday, June 20, 2015 for our 20th Festival.
